Miyawaki Report - Aug 31, 2021
Dear Miyawaki Cheerleaders
Akira Miyawaki passed away on July 16, 2021
"Berkeley, California will be home to the first 3 Miyawaki School Forests in the United States!" (but really we know of at least one other older US Miyawaki forest in Washington State)
Attached is a photo of our first attempt at a public Pocket Forest in Richmond, South Minler . What you see has cost zero dollars so far ... We used transplants (raspberries, snowberries, strawberries, comfrey, etc) and comfrey mulch from GCCS directors , and since I added some worm castings with lots of seeds from eating Sweet Digz Farm food, there are a few vegetable volunteers. I also transplanted Garry Oak from my yard and in November will add more donated items (Hawthorn etc). It took me approx 3 hours to prepare and plant, and then I watered almost daily for about 2 minutes during the long dry season
